Your mental health does not only concern your mind, but your body as well. Most people are unaware of the fact that mental health and physical health are interconnected. Mental illnesses can adversely affect our physical well being. We don’t realize how essential mental health is, until we forget to take care of ourselves and end up in a dangerous situation.
Caring for our mental health means caring for our physical health as well and I would like to share that mental health is just as crucial as physical health in three major areas. First, mental health influences your mood, which affects your actions. An individual with mental health issues may engage in risky behaviours, such as smoking or excessive drinking. Not only that, they are also more inclined to accidents because their mind struggles to properly guide their body. Being depressed over something, affects you and everyone around you. If you feel good, you have a tendency to share positive outcomes and lead to a healthy lifestyle, whereas if you are in a state of bad mood, you create a cloudy atmosphere that negatively affects others. Second, you can’t do anything unless you have the right state of mind. If you are in a negative state, you can’t think clearly and do things at the right time and in the right way. We can observe that people who are suffering from mental issues, have a delusion that everything is wrong and find themselves doing nothing. They succumb to anxiety and cannot fend for themselves. Finally, it’s difficult to be productive when you’re struggling with depression or anxiety. For instance, someone with low self-esteem may avoid activities as a result of feelings of guilt or anxiety. If we are in a state of this mental issue, we tend to give up, do nothing and fear will overshadow your wellbeing.
Overall, mental health matters as much as physical health. In fact, it is more significant. Healthy mind is not simply a matter of being happy and smiling all the time. It’s also means being able to have a healthy relationship with one another and oneself. Additionally, treating mental health problems helps prevent people from dealing with more severe physical health issues. Improving one’s mental health is vital to one’s overall physical well-being. We should speak more openly about mental health, and ensure that people feel comfortable in seeking help when they need it. ~KSH
